Johnstons A9 was unusual in having a Stratford Motor Bodies DP24F body. It was exported to the Cook Islands.

While Johnstons have a long line of interesting coaches the Auckland Airport service has tended to run fairly standard
equipment. In my youth Bedfords were the mainstay of the service to Whenuapai Airport and later to Auckland International
Airport at Whenuapai. A12 is one of a batch of 5 VAS's purchased 1978-80 that were the last Bedfords in Johnstons fleet.

This NZMB bodied Bedford YRQ was used to provide transport between the airport and the city after
Auckland's airport moved to Mangere. It is photographed at NAC's Victoria St terminal which is where passengers
check in. Like all Johnstons coaches of this period it carried a Kiwi number, in this case 4. Photo Peter Trevor
